Wordie house:Visitor guidelines

Maintenance of Wordie House is undertaken by personnel from the nearby Ukrainian Antarctic Station Akademik Vernadsky, under a special arrangement with the British Government. All persons wishing to see inside the hut must contact the Vernadsky Base Commander and ask for permission before doing so.

Visitor guidelines:

• Smoking is not permitted inside or within 10 metres of the hut.
• The use by visitors of permuses, portable stoves or the base stove inside the hut is prohibited because of the risk of fire.
• Numbers are restricted to not more than 10 peaple inside the hut at one time.
• Removal of any artefact or item inside or outside the hut is forbidden.
• Visitors are requested to sign the base visitors’ book.
• Overnight stays by visitors at Wordie House are prohibited.
• Visitors are to leave the hut safely, and fully closed up on departure.

Wordie House is secured, but not locked in order to allow access to visitors. We hope you will enjoy your visit and respect this historic site.
