According to Article XIII (Paragraph 1) of the Antarctic Agreement (further on referred to as the Agreement) Ukraine joined the Agreement September 17, 1992. Ukraine In compliance with Article XIII of the Agreement during the XVII Consultation Meeting of the Agreement member states October 28, 1992, Italy, Ukraine obtained a Non-consultation Party status. Since 1994, Ukraine is CCAMLR member. Since September 5, 1994 Ukraine is SCAR associated member.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding between British Antarctic Service and Ukrainian Antarctic Center signed June, 1995, British Antarctic Station Faraday was released to Ukraine (at present – Academician Vernadskiy Station).

In compliance with Article X of the Agreement Ukraine conducts complex and systematic researches since January 6, 1996.

During the XXVI Consultation Meeting of the Agreement member states the Depositary of the Agreement (USA) confirmed the receipt of official documents by Ukraine concerning its adherence to the Agreement Environment Protection Protocol and to Recommendation XVI-10 (Protocol Appendix V).

According to Article VII of the Agreement international inspections of Vernadskiy Station in 1999 and 2001 informed, that Ukraine carries out its Antarctic activities pursuant to principles and provisions of the Agreement.
