Akademik Vernadsky Station (the former British Faraday Station) was transferred to Ukraine on February 6, 1996. It is located on Galindez Island (65º15'S, 64º15' W), close to the Antarctic Peninsula.
The number of winterers at the Station is 11-15 persons; 7-10 of whom are scientist.
The analysis of scientific problems in different areas of research and their integration in groups by related methods of measurement, by the application of equipment and subsidiary, etc. are carried out for the efficient use of efforts and resources.
Meteorology, oceanography, glaciology - these are the most important monitoring scientific research areas carried out at Vernadsky Station. Systematic sea level height measurements at Vernadsky Station are of great importance for the monitoringof climate change.
