Doctor of Geology and Mineralogy. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Honourable Mineral Prospector. Winner of the State Award of Ukraine in the field of the Science and Technology (1989, 2000), of the P. A. Tutkovsky Award (2008), Honoured Worker of Ukraine in the field of the Science and Technology of Ukraine. First director of the Antarctic Research Centre of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1993-1997). Head of the Ukrainian Palaeontology Society and of the National Stratological Committee of Ukraine, member of scientific and technical council on Antarctic research of the International Commission on Quaternary Study. Editor-in-chief of The Geological Magazine and the Ukrainian Antarctic Magazine. In 1995 signed the memorandum (representing Ukraine) on passing over the “Faraday” British Antarctic station to Ukraine.
Born October 21st,1937 in the town Goshcha of the Rivne region. Graduated the geography faculty of the Chernivtsi University, completed postgraduate course at the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
